Invest in a Proper Mat
Yoga mats exist for a reason, and can greatly affect your performance, via your footing and grip. Also, keep in mind that the floor can be tough on your knees, elbows, and hands, and a mat can provide a welcome buffer.
Designate a Practice Space
Part of the appeal of yoga is that it can be practiced in a group or class setting, as well as on an individual basis. With that in mind, we suggest designating a practice spot in your home, away from noise and distractions.
Try to find a consistent time in the day to practice, when there’s little chance you’ll be disrupted, and you’re not in a rush to do anything else. You can also research simple yoga flows, and find one you like, so that you have a routine to start with come time to practice.
Don’t Forget to Breath
Breathing is a powerful tool for managing stress, and mastering yoga. When you’re learning poses for the first time, breathing can fall to the wayside, which will ultimately weaken your performance. It’s important not to forget about the mind aspect of practicing yoga, and breathing awareness contributes to a recharged mind. Place a written reminder, via a sticky note, beside your matt if necessary.
