By now you’ve probably seen cold-shoulder looks dotting fashion runways. In addition to being cute, these pieces tend to show a little skin without sacrificing classiness. In this segment, fashionista, Nicola Loewen, from Mad About Style, talks to Mandy about the enduring cold shoulder trend and shares some tips on how to style cold shoulder pieces.
If you’ve only recently learned about the cold shoulder trend and are interested in easing into the look, a good place to start is with a denim-centric outfit, A.K.A jeans and a shoulder cutout sweater. Cold shoulder knits provide a modest amount of coverage, but the peek-a-boo cutouts lend the look a little bit of edge. One great thing about this style of cold shoulder, is that it doesn’t require specific undergarments. This is good news for those of us who hate wearing a strapless bra. TIP For a dressier look, pair a cold shoulder top with leather leggings or a skirt. For an even more casual look, pair a cold shoulder top with a pair of leggings or jeggings. Finish the look off with a pair of neutral booties.
An off-the-shoulder look is the bare-all version of the trend. Still, it’s a relatively modest look, baring only the shoulders and décolletage area, and concealing the arms, chest, and navel. An off-the-shoulder top can be worn with a range of bottoms, including jeans, dress pants, leather, and skirts, and an off-the-shoulder dress can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. If you’re worried about the décolletage area being too bare, you can easily supplement with a statement necklace.
