Q: What are the most important things to look for when buying a home?
Michelle Jakeman: A lot of us are told, it’s about location, location, location. I agree, it has to make sense for your lifestyle. Are there amenities close? Is there a school for your growing family?
It’s very easy to get caught up in the gorgeous features of the home, such as the granite countertops, the hardwood flooring, or a fire feature—but what’s very important to ask about is the core of the home. Ask about the building practices of the trades and suppliers that are working on your home. Are they reputable? Are there higher standards expected in building the home.
This is the biggest investment most of us will make, so we want to make sure it stands the test of time.
