How to Wear Pastels
Pastels are a great way to incorporate color into your wardrobe, but just like any fashion trend, pulling off pastels requires a little forethought. Fashion authority Nicola Loewen, from Mad About Style, talks to us about the versatility of pastels and shares her expert tips re: incorporating great pastels into your wardrobe.
How to Wear: Monochrome Pastels
For an edgier take on pastels, Nicola shows us a look comprised exclusively of shades of pink. This means everything from the dress to the shoes to the bag. The key to pulling off monochrome pastel is by incorporating plenty of texture, which lends dimension to the outfit. For instance, a pastel pink dress with a lace overlay, accessorized with a matte pink purse, and pink suede heels. This look ends up being very bold, without using a very bold color.
How to Wear: Business Casual Pastels
When shopping for office wear, we tend to gravitate towards muted shades, such as black, white, and grey. Pastels could also be considered muted, making them a great choice for the office. Putting together a look comprised of more than one pastel for the office can be a test of your patience; Nicola recommends wearing two to three pastels together at a time, maximum. Beyond the number of pastels, pay attention to how well your pastels compliment each other. For instance, a pastel yellow paired with a pastel pink might end up looking a little Easter egg-esq. On the other hand, pastel yellow paired with pastel purple or powder blue looks unexpected, but complimentary.
How to Wear: Everyday Pastels
For an everyday look, Nicola recommends pairing your pastels alongside your go-to neutrals. For instance, a pastel top with white jeans, or a pastel dress with a grey blazer. In cooler months, you can pair pastels with darker neutrals, such as black or charcoal, for a more season-appropriate look.
