Preventing Cutting Boards From Slipping
A common problem with granite and concrete countertops is that they lack the grip necessary to keep your cutting board in place as you slice and dice. Not only can this be an extreme annoyance when you’re trying to whip up dinner for your family, but a slipping and sliding cutting board can pose a serious safety hazard. In that spirit, this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show features Chef Sachit Mehra who will be sharing some tips on eliminating this hazard so you can cook with ease.
Expert Tip # 1
When using any cutting board, you can mitigate slip by cutting directly in the center of the board.
Expert Tip # 2
Another handy tip that can help mitigate that pesky slip factor involves a dishcloth and some water. Simply soak the dishcloth in water, wring it out, and then place the damp washcloth directly underneath of the cutting board. This will create some grip between the countertop and the cutting board. TIP Don’t have a washcloth to spare? This tip also works using a damp paper towel.
Bonus Tips:
- You can buy small, round, adhesive rubber grips at any hardware store. Use the adhesive side to secure the grips to the bottom of your cutting board you should be good to go!
- A role of shelf liners can go a long way in stabilizing your cutting board. To boot, shelf liners are usually inexpensive, washable, dry quickly, and can be easily stored.
- Finally, a small non-slip mat could also do the trick. If you can’t find a small non-slip mat, simply cut a larger one down to size.
