Trend Watch: Soapstone for Countertops and More
As its name suggests, soapstone is a soft rock largely consisting of talc – but there’s much more to it than that. In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, celebrity designer Evelyn Eshun visits Great Mountain Soapstone to learn more about what soapstone is, why it’s a great option, and where it can be used!
What is soapstone?
Soapstone is a natural stone material, which can be used in place of traditional materials, such as quartz and granite. Soapstone can be used on countertops, fireplaces, sinks, and even in outdoor spaces. It is not porous, which means it doesn’t absorb stains. It’s also heat resistant, making it a good choice for fireplaces, barbecues, wood stoves, and outdoor areas.
What does soapstone look like?
Soapstone is a dark stone; mostly gray with variations on green, black, and charcoal. It also has a matte finish, which hides imperfections well.
How durable is soapstone?
Though soapstone is a soft stone, it is forgiving of scratches and abrasions, and imperfections can generally be sanded with sandpaper or steel wool.
How is soapstone best maintained?
Soapstone tends looks best when oiled with mineral oil. This will ensure consistent coloration.
