What is a liquid lipstick?
Liquid lipsticks exist are a cross between a cream lipstick and a lipgloss. In other words, they contain the pigment of a lipstick, with the glide and application of a gloss.
What types of liquid lipsticks are there and what can I expect from them?
- Matte Finish. Matte liquid lipsticks contain no signs of sheen or glimmer whatsoever. Though the look they create can be chic and pretty, matte formulas tend to dry out the lips. For this reason, it’s important to moisture the lips well before applying a matte liquid lipstick.
- Satin or Velvet Finish. Lip satins apply much like markers and aren’t quite as drying to the lips as matte formulas are. That said, it’s still important to moisture the lips well before applying lip satins or liquid lipsticks with a velvety finish.
Tips & Tricks:
- For maximum longevity, liquid lipsticks work best when they’re not combined with any other products, including lip liners.
- Even if you’re feeling dry, it’s important not to apply any sort of moisturizing product (such as lip balm or Vaseline) over top of the lipstick. Doing so will cause the formula of the liquid lipstick to break down, crack, and/or fade away.
- Before applying the liquid lipstick onto the lips, use the edge of the tube to skim off some of the product from the applicator. The less product you have on your lips, the better it will stay on and the more accurate you will be when applying.
