Expert Q&A: Roofing Services
In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, Mike Payne from No Payne Roofing shares expert answers about roofing services.
Q: How will the roofer leave the job site at the end of every day?
Mike Payne: At the end of every day, he’ll sweep up all the granules and clean up all the debris that may be around. He may need permission to go into the neighbour’s yard to get any wrappers or things that may fall out if the houses are a little bit too close together. You can expect a clean, tidy, and well put together job at the end of the day.
Q: Are you going to install drip edge or edge metal when you install the new roof?
Mike Payne: Despite it not being Alberta building code, we will generally be installing it depending on the homeowner’s expectations and budget. It is a good idea to prevent water from contacting your plywood and getting that water into your eavestroughs
Q: What’s the average warranty on a new roof?
Mike Payne: The average warranty can vary, but I would say a five-year workmanship warranty and a limited lifetime shingle which goes about 30 years. We recommend the lifetime warranty. It’s 50-year lifetime and it guarantees you against a bad run of shingles. I mean, sometimes it does happen where shingles will only last 10 years, and if you have a limited warranty then you’re not going to get as good of coverage, but if you have a lifetime warranty you never have to pay for that re-roof again
Q: Should I replace my eavestroughs?
Mike Payne: It depends on the age or the condition of your eavestroughs. If they look fine and they’re not leaking then I would say no. If they are leaking on the corners sometimes it’s a matter of some sealant and but generally speaking you can salvage your eavestroughs.
