Kids Playroom Design Tips
In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Love Your Home, Christine Da Costa shares her tips for designing a kids playroom.
Christine Da Costa: What do you do when you have an empty room in your house and you don’t want a formal living room or a formal dining room? Well, that was the case with my clients with this empty room. So what we did is we created a fun homework-playroom for their two young kids. When creating this playroom for my client, I wanted to have a little reading area for the kids because reading is so important. And what I really liked about these shelves is they’re not actually bookshelves, they’re art shelves that you would display art on. So, this gave us dual functionality for these shelves, where we were able to display some art, but also lean the books front ways. And then, I put some colorful bean bags at the bottom and some boxes where they could put the rest of their books in and the kids can just sit on these fun little bean bags, read a book, and enjoy themselves. In this area of the playroom, this is where we have the organization of all the toys. So they can easily just grab one of these bins, take it to the floor, sit on one of these great fun cushions, and then just play to their hearts content. The other thing that I really like about this area, we put up this fun decal of the world. It’s not just all about playing in the playroom, it’s also about learning. And this is very easy on the eyes for the kids and it’s fun to choose all the different countries and look at them. In this area of the playroom I created this little homework area and you’ll notice I didn’t put a typical desk in here. Instead I chose some mid-century modern furniture with four chairs that’s going to grow with the child. The good thing about this table is that it’s sturdy and easily washable, which is so key when you’re using a lot of crayons.
