Advice on Kitchen Trends

The kitchen is one of the most timeless rooms in the home. With that said, it’s also subject to many ever-changing trends. In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Love Your Home, Chris Palmer shares some of his favourite kitchen trends and renovation tips.

Q: What are some of your favourite kitchen trends?

Chris Palmer: Some of my favourite kitchen trends going right now are always bringing back that classic look with the white subway tile. I know it never dies and it’s not really a trend, but to me tile is just something that really time stamps a house, if you pick the wrong trend. So, by going with a white subway tile, it’s been one of my favorite things. Another favourite trend of mine is not following trends, because, like I said, trends can time stamp your kitchen and put you into a spot where you don’t want to be, because in five years people might not like that at all and that’s just it. But if you’re gonna live in that house and it’s your forever home, do what you want. 

Q: What are some common issues with home renovations?

Chris Palmer: My top issues for a client when we’re doing renovations is always the design, because most people struggle to find what they really want versus what they need. Another thing would also be focusing on your budget. Knowing what you can and can’t afford. When you’re getting into your renovations, it’s always good to plan ahead and learn what costs are. Get a few estimates from different contractors, don’t just pick one, because then you just narrow yourself down.
