In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Ask The Expert, Wolf Nickel of STOR-X Organizing Systems answers questions about custom storage units and their solutions.
Q: How do you determine the best storage configurations for different areas in the home? Where do you start?
Wolf Nickel: When you look at somebody’s home and they have some storage problems, the first thing we do is determine who’s using the closet and what their needs are. There’s lots of different applications for our products; it can be walk-in closets reach-in closets, laundry rooms, or mudrooms. So generally speaking, we look at the space, we look at the user, and then your Stor-X representative or designer will design something to fit that space for you.
Q: What are some tips for maximizing closet space, particularly for small-space dwellers?
WN: In this day and age, a lot of people are moving into smaller spaces, such as apartments, condos, and things like that. Our products are perfect for that. The first part of the process that you need to go through when you’re working with a smaller space is decluttering. If you get rid of all the things you haven’t used for a year, we look at what you want to store, and design a closet solution based on that.
Q: Do you have any advice for sharing a closet space with a spouse or partner?
WN: Many times, when we have a closet problem, there are two people using it and there’s always a bit of a challenge. What we typically do in these kinds of instances is create a space where they can share some of it, and then we create specific areas for each partner, that are suited to their individual needs.
