Baking Secrets: Striped Cake Technique
If you love the look of a professionally decorated cake, but don’t like the price tag, today’s show features a DIY tutorial to transform any plain cake into a culinary masterpiece. In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, Cherice Hyland of Custom Cakes by C shares a technique to decorate a cake with stripes.
Cherice Hyland: Hi Marc and Mandy, today I’m going to show you how to make a striped cake. It’s super quick and easy to do. So, the first thing we’re going to do is we’re going to take our first color. In this case white. We are going to ice the entire cake and smooth it out. And then, we’re going to take our special striping tool and go around the cake with that, and that creates those ridges which gives us those perfect stripes. Once we have those ridges, we’re going to take our second color with a piping bag and just go around and fill in those ridges. And then, once we smooth that over it’ll look really messy at first, but it eventually smooths out and you get perfect lines. Once we have our striped cake finished we get to add any decorations we want to. So, today we’re just going to do something really simple we’re just going to add some ruffles on the top and a drip and some sprinkles.
