Maximize Your Closet Space
If you’ve found your dream home, but its built-in closets leave much to be desired, fret not because there are more than a few ways to maximize your closet space. For instance, if you have enough space in your closet, but not enough shelves, you might want to consider an add-in unit, which you can customize to meet your specific needs. There are also plenty of closet organizing products on the market, which are more budget-friendly than purchasing an entire shelving unit. Some of these products include: hanging shelves made of a lightweight material, multi-level hangers, over-the-door organizers, and valet rods.
Drawers vs. Shelves
Oftentimes, the choosing between drawers and shelves boils down to personal preference, but there are also a few other factors to consider. Of course, jewelry, belts and other small accessories are better suited for drawers, while thicker knits, such as sweaters and jeans, are better stored in shelves. You might want to consider having a set of drawers to conceal items such as undergarments or pajamas, which don’t need to be showcased.
Kids’ Closet System
Designing a closet system for yourself and designing a closet system for you children are two very different jobs. Since children’s clothes tend to be more compact than their adult counterparts, much of their belongings can be stored in shelves, and there’s not as much need to hang garments. If you do want to hang some of your child’s clothes, you can reserve a smaller section of the closet, height-wise. When designing a closet system for your kids, select one that will be easily customizable in the years to come, so that you can make changes as their needs indefinitely change.
Organizing Your Pantry
For better visibility in your pantry, consider products such as slanted shelves, Lucite drawers, and baskets for your produce. Items like these will help you to better keep track of what you already have in your pantry, so you can minimize wastage and avoid overbuying. Corning shelving and pull-out shelving are two more clever features to consider for your ideal pantry system.
I definitely need to look at organizing my closet differently – clothing seems to multiply!
