Q: What’s the most common problem you run into when renovating a bathroom?
Mike Holmes: The the most common problem we run into when renovating a bathroom—and it drives me insane—is structure being cut in the floor. For instance, if somebody has made some changes years ago, perhaps by installing a sewer line right through the floor joints because they didn’t want a bulkhead downstairs. You don’t know it and you can’t see it, but it’s a problem that you’ll need a bigger budget to fix.
