Creating A Contract With Your Builder
When it comes to building and construction, having a contract in place is important to not only ensure that the job gets done, but to safeguard all involved parties down the road. In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, Steve Chandra explains how to create a contract between builder and client.
Steve Chandra: Today I’m going to be talking about contracts between the builder and the client and the best way of getting a proper contract in place. I used to have a standard contract but I found that when clients have certain things and needs or wants sometimes I think that our standard contract just doesn’t cut it. Every client is different, so it’s just easier to sit with the client and see what they want and what they expect from me as a builder. And then we would come to some type of agreement or terms that we’re both satisfied with, bring it to lawyers, let the lawyers look at it, let them put it in writing, and then go over the contract again before you sign. Once everything is signed is sealed, that’s how everything will fall in place. Always have everything done in writing. That way there’s no confusion if there is something that’s not done right or there was some misunderstanding, because when you’re doing a build there’s so much going on sometimes things change during the build and construction is full of surprises.
