Creating a Stylish and Functional Family Room
If you’re looking to redesign your family room, designer Kelsey Kosman has some tips for creating a shared space that is equal parts functional and beautiful. Featured Color: Defining Moments by Beauti-tone
Color
First and foremost, you want to make sure your family room is filled with really soft, relaxing colors. As its name suggests, your family room should be a place where your family retreats to unwind and relax after a long day or work, school, and extracurriculars, and since color can directly affect your mood, it’s important to choose paint color wisely. Neutral hues or green are all good choices, and so are shades of blue. Defining Moments by Beauti-tone falls into that “shades of blue” category, and is an excellent choice for any room in your home, including the family room.
Furniture
Leather is a great choice in a family area because it can hold up to high traffic and daily use. A brown, taupe, or grey leather couch against a backdrop of Defining Moments by Beauti-tone makes for a high-contrast, aesthetically pleasing, and effortlessly sophisticated combo.
3D Art
For something a little less neutral and a little more impactful, you might want to consider displaying a 3D art piece to infuse your family room with some personality and flare. This is an opportunity to use texture in a unique and fun way, so don’t limit yourself to pieces that will blend in with your decor. Designer Kelsey Kosman has selected a feather-heavy piece which may seem a tad eccentric at first blush, but in conjunction with the rest of the room, looks very intentional and just bold enough to complete her family room look.
TIP If you’re working with an open concept floor plan, a 3D art piece can actually help to absorb sound and block it from leaving the room and travelling to the rest of the house.
