Decorative Candles
In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, Mandy visits These Four Walls to see their decorative candles. Check in the video above or keep reading for some beginner tips for candle making.
Know your wax
Candles can be made of a wide variety of waxes and wax blends. Getting to know the different wax types will help you to make an informed choice based on the type of candle you are trying to make. For instance, beeswax is best used for pillar and taper candles, while soy wax is better for container candles.
Dyes and scents
Once you’ve heated up your wax of choice, you can feel free to add dyes and scents. Make sure you add dyes and scents once the wax is at its hottest so that they mix thoroughly. The exception to this is if you’re using essential oils, rather than scents that are specifically made for candle making. If you are using essential oils, wait until the wax cools a little bit.
Get creative with containers
Of course, the most straightforward type of container to use is an old candle container. To remove old wax from the container, place the container in simmering water until the wax melts and then remove the wax from the container. With that said, you can use anything from mason jars to old cookie tins to teacups as candle containers.
