Discreet HVAC Systems
Effective and innovative HVAC systems are more important than ever! On this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show: Expert Q & A, Bobby Watt from Watt HVAC shares ideas on how to discreetly install an HVAC system in a condo.
Q: What ideas do you have for installing air conditioning in my condo, discreetly?
Bobby Watt: To answer your question, I’ve brought you to beautiful British Columbia, Yaletown, to show you one of our custom installations. The air conditioning system is composed of two different systems: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The biggest problem with these is to try to find a way to get the pipes from indoors to outdoors without building big bulky drop ceilings and bulkheads. In this specific installation, we’ve put the pipes behind the valance and underneath the blinds. So they are completely invisible and will never be seen. This gives the appears that it was always here to begin with and doesn’t look like it was put in afterwards. You’re no longer confined to the traditional wall-hung unit.
Nowadays, there are a lot more examples of air conditioning we can use. One of these is the slimmed up unit, which is completely confined to the ceiling space. The only things that you see on the outside are the distribution for the air on the return and the supply side.
Here’s an example of how you can hide the outdoor unit, so your patio just looks like a regular patio. We made up this barbecue stand for overtop of the outdoor unit. Up here, you have a couple of cooktops, a barbecue, and a pot cooker. And this way you can enjoy your outdoor space.
