DIY Personalized Hand Towels
Is your family constantly squabbling over towels? If you answered YES, our DIY expert has a project that might help. In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, sewing expert Mary Dobson shows us a few ways to DIY basic hand towels for a personalized look.
Iron-On Decals
For a quick and easy DIY, which doesn’t require much sewing skills, Mary recommends ironing on a fun assortment of decals. Iron-on decals can be picked up at your local craft store. Beware: the decals may not endure the washing machine, so if you opt to go the iron-on route, handle your creation with care.
Fabric Paint Marker
For something a little less fragile, Mary recommends using fabric paint markers to embellish a terry cloth towel. Before you use or launder your creation, make sure to heat set it by ironing it.
Ribbon and Fusible Webbing
For something a little more complex than the aforementioned ideas, Mary suggests decorative ribbon and fusible webbing. Begin by ironing the webbing onto the back of the ribbon, and then iron the ribbon/webbing onto the towel. If you want to take this project one step further, simply using a sewing machine to sew a straight stitch on the borders of the ribbon.
