Expert Advice: Hiring Good Contractors
On today’s episode of The Marc and Mandy Show: Ask An Expert, Peter Di Scola from Salerno Custom Homes gives direction for hiring a good contractor.
Q: Do you have any suggestions on how I can hire a good contractor?
Peter Di Scola: It goes without saying that a good contractor must be insured, licensed, and provide a detailed contract—to name a few on the list of requirements. I would start my search with the following three critical queries, as there are many stories out there about bad contractors, so you need to be careful.
- Credentials. Some questions to ask your prospective contractor are: What was your technical training? What was your path in becoming a contractor? Were you a trades person or what was your training from another field? How did you hone your skills—and for how long?
- Track Record. What is past clientele saying about the company, the work they do, and the trades they hire? Are their clients fully satisfied? Are they willing to showcase their work for potential clients?
- Experience. How long has the company been in the business and have they completed similar projects?
So getting the right fit is not only about the price on the quote, it’s the value that a contractor can bring to your particular project. And getting it right for you is imperative for a successful project. So contact a local professional for more info.
