Expert Q&A: Roof Maintenance
Your roof is one of the most important elements of your home. As such, you want to make sure your roof is in good working condition at all times. In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Ask An Expert, John Bury from Army Roofing shares some great advice for maintaining a roof.
Q: What should I look for when hiring a roofing contractor?
John Bury: The best advice that we can give is to do your homework. There are a lot of companies out there, and knowing a little backstory can help you pick the right roofing contractor. Make sure you check Google reviews, Better Business Bureau, social media platforms, and also the company’s website. Most importantly, ask for references. Chances are, if you can find somebody who had a good experience, you will also have a good experience.
Q: My roof deck already has boards, so is plywood sheeting necessary?
JB: The short answer is: yes. Chances are, your boarded roof is very aged and in poor condition. They’ve been subject to many years of weathering, expansion and contraction, hot and cold weather, and poor ventilation.
A nice, clean coat of plywood over top of your roof deck, will create good backing for your nails, provide a clean working surface for installing your roof, and give you a nice clean look from the ground.
