Festive Fall Front Entry Decor for Thanksgiving
The holidays pose a unique opportunity to swap your regularly scheduled decor for something a little more festive. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Marc shares five tips for recreating your front entryway in a way that suits the season.
Tip 1: Photograph Your Home
Before you even think about shopping, first and foremost take a photograph of your home from the street. This will give you a better idea of the size and design requirements of your front entryway. You can even take the photograph with you when you go shopping for fall decor, to ensure you are selecting items which match the color and tone of your home.
Tip 2: Contemporize
Contrary to common belief, decorating for Thanksgiving hardly restricts you to the traditional colors of fall.
Get creative this year with on-trend, contemporary colors and finishes that suit the colors of your home, such as ivory and metallics.
Tip 3: Elongate & Layer
If you’re working with a small space, your aim should be to elongate the front entryway/porch via decor. For instance: lining each step of your front stoop with odd-sized pumpkins will create a layered effect, which will draw the eye up and down the stairs, giving it the illusion of length.
Tip 4: Repurpose
If you’ve got an army of pots and planters collecting dust in your garage, ’tis the season to cleverly repurpose them into pumpkin- and gourd- holders. You could also try filling them with pinecones or tree branches.
Tip 5: Redirect Attention
As with any decorating scheme, you need a focal point, and the front door is an obvious one. Draw attention to the front door by hanging a colorful wreath. Another way to redirect attention to your front door is by painting your house numbers on a pumpkin, adjacent to the front door. Ensure your house numbers are written in large, bold, and very noticeable font.
