He Said She Said: Kid’s Messy Rooms
If you have little ones, you’ll know that keeping their bedrooms and playrooms clean is practically a full-time job. In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, Marc and Mandy discuss whether or not kids should have messy rooms. Check out the video above to hear Marc and Mandy’s thoughts or keep reading for tips on keeping your kids’ rooms clean.
Clean together
Cleaning is not something that comes naturally to anyone. To teach your child or children how to clean, you’ll have to lead by example. Try designating 20 minutes everyday before bedtime and have your child clean with you. After a while, you can start dividing up the responsibilities by having your child clean certain areas while you clean other areas. Next, have them clean while you supervise. Eventually, your child will be able to clean without your supervision.
Avoid cleaning for your child
While it can be tempting to get cleaning done faster by doing it yourself, stepping in and cleaning your child’s room for them shows your child that you don’t think they can do it on their own or that they simply don’t have to do it on their own. Start cleaning with your child at an early age.
Easy-to-access storage
Include plenty of bins, containers, and drawers in your child’s bedroom and make sure that they know that these areas are to store things like toys, clothes, and craft supplies. Make sure these storage areas are in areas they can easily access so that they can easily put things away after they’re done using things.
Have consequences
If your child refuses to clean their room or does a poor job, make sure that they know there are repercussions. For instance, you can take away any toys that are left on the ground at the end of the day for a period of time.
