He Said, She Said: Skipping Turkey at Thanksgiving
On this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, Marc and Mandy debate the turkey dinner tradition. Is it old and tired or tried–and–true? To tune into what they have say, check out the video above. For some non-traditional ideas for celebrating Thanksgiving with your family and friends, keep reading.
Picnic lunch or dinner
If weather permits, get the family together for a picnic lunch or dinner. And since you’re not hosting at someone’s home, distribute the responsibilities and have everyone bring a drink, food item, or even a game of some sort.
Virtual celebration
If you have friends and/or family in far away places, videoconferencing is a great way to reunite without any travel. Have everyone prepare their version of a Thanksgiving feast (even if that means turkey sandwiches) and dress for the occasion. Prepare some games ahead of time for some added fun!
Serve the community
If you’re not really into the family reunion thing or the big, lavish dinner, consider putting your efforts outwards. For instance, you can volunteer at a local charity, such as a soup kitchen, or deliver Thanksgiving goodies to elderly neighbours.
Cocktail party
Finally, if you’re spending Thanksgiving in the company of adults, consider hosting an evening cocktail party. Have everyone dress up for the occasion and bring a drink or mixer.
