Anticipate that emotions will be high
Kindergarten is a huge and formative experience for your kids, but in many cases, it’s also the first time kids will be away from their parents. As such, it’s only natural to for your kids to be scared and emotional. It’s also only natural for parents to be emotional. Try to turn the separation into a positive experience by planning a fun activity to do together after kindergarten.
Take a first day photo
Another way to get your child excited about kindergarten is to dress them up in a special, brand new outfit and have them pose for a picture. This will show them that the first day of kindergarten, and the first day of school in general, is a big deal and a positive experience.
Connect with the teacher and ask lots of questions
If you can, stick around to introduce yourself to your child’s teacher. This will not only show your child that their teacher is someone to feel comfortable with, but it will also ease your own hesitation as a parent. And don’t be afraid to ask questions!
