Homemade Bath Bomb
Drawing a bath in a great way to unwind after a long day at work and caring for the kids. To take your relaxation to the next level, a bath bomb might be exactly what you’re looking for. Ready to relax? Mandy shows us how to DIY a bath balm for a fraction of the price of buying one from the mall.
What you’ll need: baking soda, cornstarch, citric acid, Epsom salt, coconut oil OR baby oil, essential oils, sphere-shaped ornament
Step 1: Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, combine baking soda, cornstarch, and Epsom salt. Use your hands to fold the ingredients together, and mix until smooth.
Step 2: Wet Ingredients
Next, add in the citric acid. Citric acid, in conjunction with baking soda, creates the fizzing reaction that is hallmark of bath bombs. At this stage, you can also add in your oil of choice. Mix the ingredients together using your hands. You should be aiming for a “wet sand” consistency.
Step 3: Essential Oils
Depending on your personal preference, at this stage, you can add a few drops of essential oil. Aim for oils with relaxing properties, such as lavender, orange, eucalyptus, rose, or chamomile.
Step 4: Mould
Next, using your sphere-shaped ornament as a mould, you’re going to form the circular shape of your bath bomb. You want to make sure you’re compacting your sphere as tight as you can, so it holds its shape once you’ve removed it from the mould. When you’re ready to remove the bath bomb from the mould, give the mould a light tap all the way around. This will help to loosen the bath bomb. You can then let your bath bomb dry overnight.
