Kitchen Reno & DIY Advice
On this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: LOVE Your Home, Mickey Fabbianno and Sebastian Sevallo share tips for changing routines during kitchen renos and having fun with DIYs.
Mickey Fabbianno: A kitchen renovation is no different than any other renovation. When it comes down to it, you need to prepare and you need to plan, and from beginning to end, it’s the same. But with a kitchen, especially if you’re going to live in the home, you need to understand you’re not going to have that kitchen. Yes, I know what you’re thinking… obviously. But it’s a bigger problem than you think. People will wake up and they’ll have their routine–their coffee, their cereal, their breakfast–and they’ll think they can continue with that routine, but the crew comes in there and all of a sudden the water shut off throughout the house possibly. So, you need to plan in that sense that this house is under construction, whether it’s your kitchen your bathroom your living room your basement. Obviously, you can isolate the house to a certain extent, but know your everyday routine is not going to be the same.
Sebastian Sevallo: You know what, I personally think it’s really important and cool for homeowners to do some DIY projects in their renovation. It gives the homeowner a sense of personalizing the space, makes them feel like they’ve taken part in the renovation, and it just makes it feel more like it’s your space. Obviously, there’s a lot of different things you can do stuff like plumber’s pipe shelving or putting up backsplash or paint or little accents. They go a long way into making a space feel yours and there’s lots of tutorials online and things that you can do that aren’t really too difficult that’s going to make a renovation a lot better. Leave the big stuff and the big ticket items up to the contractors and then put your own personal spin on it
