Though it can be tempting to make design decisions based on aesthetics, your kitchen is a room you’ll likely use every day, multiple time a day. Because of that reality, it’s so important to prioritize functionality. Make sure that there is enough room between your countertops, appliances, and island to maneuver swiftly. TIP If you’re not sure how to lay your kitchen out, try this: have the sink, the fridge, and the range form an equilateral triangle.

More is more with lighting

One of the most things to consider when renovating a kitchen is lighting. If you have a window or windows, that’s great for during the daytime, but ensure you have enough lighting for when the sun goes down. Think a combination of recessed lighting and wall-mounted fixtures.

Make a statement with your stove

Because of its size and centrality in the kitchen, your stove can end up being a focal point without trying to be. For that reason, consider the way your stove looks. If you really want to make a statement with your stove, try a unique style or finish. Just make sure the model you choose compliments the rest of your kitchen.
