Pro Advice: DIY Kitchen Renos
Kitchen renos are one of the most common types of home renovations, with great return-on-investment to boot! Today on The Marc and Mandy Show: Expert Q&A, Contractor and HGTV Host Mike Holmes Jr. gives advice for DIY kitchen renovations.
Q: I’d like to do my own kitchen renovation? Do you have any advice for me?
Mike Holmes Jr: I don’t love DIY. I’m a firm believer that we have professionals for these trades for a reason. For instance, trim carpenters, kitchen carpenters, cabinetry specialists, painters, electricians—you name it! We have these professionals for a reason, so use them! Keep in mind: there is a difference between a professional kitchen renovation and a DIY kitchen renovation, so which one do you want.
If you are considering a DIY kitchen renovation of any kind, here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Plan on using your existing walls and kitchen configuration. This will help you to save on time and money and lessen your margin of error.
- Pick out your appliances before doing anything else. Before remodelling the structure of your kitchen, you want to ensure the appliances you want can mesh well in the space.
- And finally, leave the most important things to the pros. Any electrical work is a good example of something that will be faster and done better by a professional.
