No-Carve Pumpkins
If you love the look of decorative pumpkins, but you don’t want the hassle of carving one, we have some great suggestions on how to get your pumpkin in the Halloween spirit, sans the mess. Lifestyle expert, Taylor Kaye, shares some tried-and-true tips for anyone looking for some festive “crafternoon” inspo.
Spider Pumpkin
This super simple DIY is perfect for kids who are old enough to use a pair of scissors, but not old enough to use a carving knife. To recreate this spider pumpkin idea, simply hot glue a pair of googly eyes to the pumpkin, then use a pair of scissors to puncture small holes where the “legs” (a.k.a black pipe cleaners) will go. Once you’ve punctured eight holes, simply wedge the pipe cleaners into the holes to simulate legs, and top your creation off with a mouth made of marker or stickers.
A Witch or Mummy Pumpkin
To perfectly preserve the surface of your pumpkin, Taylor Kaye suggests wrapping it in fishnet to give it a witchy vibe. Stickers and other decals can go directly on top of the fabric, leaving it pristine if you intend to carve or cook it later. This idea can work with any type of sheer material, including cheesecloth or gauze. To DIY a mummy pumpkin, wrap your pumpkin in sheer gauze and top it off with a pair of googly eyes.
A Sticker-only Pumpkin
If you’ve got very young kids on your hands, and you want to keep hot glue and sharp objects out of the crafting process altogether, why not give them free reign with stickers. With this method, you won’t have to worry about having to constantly supervise your little ones as they craft.
