The Perfect Blow Dry
Much like taxes and split ends, cowlicks are one of those things that can be something of an inevitability for some. That said, cowlicks can be effectively remedied, so long as you know how to properly style them. Mikayla from The Loft shows us her step-by-step re: achieving the perfect blow dry, and hiding those pesky cowlicks while you’re at it!
What you’ll need: a blow-dryer with a diffuser attachment, a large paddle brush, a blow-dry cream (optional)
Step 1: Blow-dry
Using the shape of the head as a guide, blow dry the hair in a side-to-side, and back-to-front motions. If you have long, thick hair, use clips to section off the hair, and blow dry each section one at a time. This will prevent damaged caused by over-drying sections.
Step 2: Brush
As you blow-dry, use your large paddle brush to brush the hair flush to the scalp. Don’t forget to keep brushing the hair in side-to-side, and back-to-front motions! This will help to manipulate the cowlick into blending in with the rest of the hair.
Step 3: Style
The products you use in conjunction with blow-drying will differ depending on your unique hair needs. For instance, if you want to add thickness to your hair, apply mousse to the hair when it’s wet, before you start blow-drying. For damaged strands, apply cream or serum before and after blow-drying.
