Picking the Best Wardrobe Staples
Clothing can be an investment, so long as you know what pieces are worth investing in. Award winner fashion designer, Lennard Taylor, shares tips for choosing wardrobe staples that you won’t need to replace over and over again!
Timelessness
What’s the point of investing in a quality piece of clothing, if it’s just going to go out of style a month, two months, or even a year from now. Before spending a lot of money on a piece of clothing, first consider whether it’s a trend buy or a classic one. Also consider how many months out of the year you can wear this piece, and if it will transition from season to season. If you have a piece on your hand that’s more classic than it is trendy, and can be worn over the course of more than one season, it’s probably smart to invest in that piece.
Quality Over Quantity
While it may be tempting to have a large wardrobe, keep in mind that if you’re only wearing pieces once in a while, you’re probably not getting the most out of your wardrobe. Alternatively, if you were to invest in a few good quality pieces, those pieces could be worn rather regularly and would last for longer without showing wear and tear. That said, should those piece wear down or incur some damage, it would be well-worth it to look into repair rather than tossing them out, which could save you money in the long run.
Multi-Functionality
One last thing to look out for when shopping for quality garments, is how versatile they are. If you’re going to invest in a piece, you want to make sure you can get a range of outfit options from it. Ensure you can dress it down and dress it up; wear it to work or wear it to lunch. Keep all these things in mind when investing in basics, and you’ll thank yourself for it later.
