Preparing for Tax Season
In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show: Experts @ Home, Finance expert Eric Robert from Rawluk & Robert Chartered Professional Accountants shares tips to help you put your best foot forward this tax season.
Mandy: Hey guys, I’m here with Eric Robert who is a CPA with Rawluk & Robert and we’re talking about taxes Everyone’s favorite topic. Eric, thanks for being with me. Let’s talk about if you have to work from home, which lately a lot of people have.
Eric Robert: So, the 2020 pandemic gave a lot of surprises and one of those was a lot more people were working from home. A lot of people have been calling me and asking me questions about what can they claim. CRA came out with a simplified form and including things you can claim, such as automobile expenses, gas, insurance, home office expenses, electricity, water, internet, and all those fun sorts of things. If you decide that it’s not really worth the trouble to get your employer to fill out that t2200 form, there is the quick version. So, if you were working for home for 200 days or more you’re allowed to claim a minimum of two dollars per day up to a maximum of 200 days to a maximum of four hundred dollars that you can claim as an expense against your income on your personal taxes.
