Q: What are some common issues that occur when renovating a house?
Kenny Gemmill: What I see a lot with clients—when I get into their house, usually after the demolition stage—is problems with asbestos, rodents, and mold. So, when it comes to these older homes, which were built pre-2000, you have a higher likelihood of running into some of these common problems. What should you do? Keep your eyes open for these kinds of issues, and if you do see any warning signs or red flags, get in touch with a professional who can get resolve the issue or issues. Also, make sure you have allowance in your home reno budget, as fixes for these kinds of problems can be costly.
