Raised Gardens for the Cottage

Opt for less variety

Different plants need different levels of care, including watering and sun. If you want to spend less time taking care of your garden, keep plant variety to a minimum.

Look for plants with bigger leaves

Opt for plants with bigger green leaves that can tolerate a lot of shade. They can take what little light is available and convert it into food to feed the roots. As a result, they need less care. 

Steer clear of flowering plants

Finally, avoid flowering plants. When a plant produces a flower, it takes a lot of energy to do so. Energy means it needs either a lot of water or a lot of fertilizer. Both mean more work for you.  

Use mulch to choke weeds

Weeds will take over whatever area in your garden that your plants don’t take up, so eliminate that negative space using mulch. More mulch will mean less time spent on your hands and knees weeding.
