Spicy Slow Cooker Meatballs with Chef Sachit Mehra
If winter has put you in the mood for some yummy comfort food, you’re going to love this segment. In the spirit of comfort food, Chef Sachit Mehra shares his recipe for spicy slow cooker meatballs – the perfect side dish for any upcoming holiday potlucks!
What you’ll need: 1/2 to 1 lbs ground beef, 1/4 cup chopped onion, green and red chilis (optional), 1 pinch cilantro, salt, 1 egg, 1 tsp garam masala, 1 pinch paprika & turmeric, 1/3 bottle tikka masala or Mother Curry Sauce, 1 tbsp ginger / garlic paste, 1 tbsp canola oil, 1 cup of water
Step 1: Combine Your Ingredients
Distribute a half pound of group beef into a bowl, followed by a cracked egg, chopped onion, paprika, ginger garlic paste, and green and red chilis. TIP The green and red chilis are of the spicy variety, so if you have a low tolerance for spice, omit this ingredient. Once your spices have been measured out into your bowl, you can go ahead and add the remaining half pound of group beef into the bowl. Mix thoroughly.
Step 2: Freeze For 30 Minutes
Next, you’re going to let your seasoned ground beef set in the fridge for about half an hour.
Step 3: Shape Into Meatballs
Once you’ve allowed your ground beef to set, you can begin forming your meatballs using a spoon or your hands. If your meatballs are not holding their shape, you can pop them back into the fridge to solidify them.
Step 4: Braise
Oil a hot pan with canola oil or olive oil, then distribute your pre-formed meatballs into the pan. The idea here is to slowly brown your meatballs before popping them into the slow cooker.
Step 5: Slow Cook
As a final, pop your braised meatballs into a slow cooker along with some Mother Curry Sauce. Let your meatballs simmer and cook until tender, and enjoy!
