Stain Glass Window Q&A
In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: On Trend, Michaela Helliwell from The Stonehouse of Campbellville answers questions about stain glass windows and how to use them in home design.
Michaela Helliwell: A lot of people come to the Stonehouse to buy stained glass windows. We have such a variety of stained glass windows and every window tells a story. Every window is a piece of art people would like to bring that art into their home and bring the history into their home and to add value in architecture. So, most of our windows here at the Stonehouse come from Northern England, the Lancashire, Manchester area. And back in the ’60s and ’70s, they were old, people hated them, they were ugly. So a lot of people were taking them out of their homes. And we found a lot of our windows in auctions and sometimes just in large piles sitting in a corner of an antique store. We also have windows from Ed Mervish Warehouse and Honest Eds. We managed to get that collection when the restaurant closed down. And we also have Toronto church windows here at the Stonehouse. We restore windows that we’ve been collecting over the years we make sure that the window’s in good condition. We want those windows to last for more generations, so we check on the structure of the window we make sure that the frame is strong, that the joints and the lead are in good condition, and it’s going to last a long time.
