The Importance of Duct Cleaning
Cleaning your ducts is necessary, but it’s definitely not fun. If you want to save yourself the time and hassle, you might want to leave the duct cleaning to the pros. In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Love Your Home, Bradley Jacobson from Ultra Vac Winnipeg shares why it’s important to clean your ducts.
Mandy: I am here with Brad, the owner of Ultra Vac. Brad, tell me how do we know when it’s time to clean our vents at home?
Brad: One easy way to see is to look for a sticker on your furnace. If it’s been more than two years it’s usually time to look at duct cleaning. It does help reduce the amount of dusting a lot of people do if it’s really bad. An easy way to assess if you know what your return vents look like is by opening one up and looking in.
Mandy: So, what are we looking for when we call for a duct cleaning company to come and fix that?
Brad: One thing I like to recommend is to avoid companies that have a per vent special. That’s normally a clue that you’re going to be getting a commission salesman near home to charge more. Look for the word “unlimited” in your duct cleaning. You want to know what you’re paying before a professional comes in your home.
Mandy: When a professional does come to your home, what should people expect they should be expecting?
Brad: Professional quality equipment. We recommend a minimum of 5,000 cubic feet per minute of suction on your vacuum. And to put that in perspective, your microwave at home is about one cubic feet in space. So, we are extracting 5,000 microwaves of dust debris and air movement in the suction of all our vacs. The other thing they do is scrub everything this is stuck on. So, we run an air-powered scrubbing system down every single vent and we scrub every inch of your home’s breathing system. So, you need to have the power to scrub it and the vacuum to get it out.
