Using Silicon Products With Curly Hair
Maintaining your curly hair can be a frustrating labour. Sometimes, mastering your curly hair boils down to using the right products at the right times, as well as knowing what products to avoid. On this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, Kim Dykstra of Coco’s Hair and Beauty Bar shares why not to use silicon products with curly hair.
Kim Dykstra: Silicone has gotten a bad wrap. There is a use for everything and everything is in moderation. If you have curly hair and you wear your hair curly, you should not use silicone. Silicone is like liquid plastic. It coats the hair, and your hair needs water in order to curl, so your hair is not going to get the water that it needs. So silicone is out for curly hair, but if you choose to straighten your hair, silicone is the perfect product for you, because you need a protectant. That’s when you should use your silicone-based products: when you’re flat ironing your hair. But when you go back to curly, clarify. Wash it out, start with clean hair again, and your curls will bounce back
