Vintage Lantern Centrepiece

Vintage is becoming a popular theme for many social events. Designer Rick Mayhew demonstrates how you can create a lantern centrepiece to go along with the vintage theme.

Do you consider yourself the hostess with the mostess? Whether it’s a wedding, dinner party, or birthday, hosting an event for your friends and family presents a unique opportunity for the host to showcase his/her creativity. One thing that weddings, dinner parties, and birthday parties have in common is centerpieces. Keep reading, (or watch the video above), for super simple two-step instructions on recreating a rustically-inspired centerpiece that will suit and compliment your table when you’re entertaining.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

What you’ll need: battery operated candles, baby’s breath flowers, and a lantern.

Lanterns can be purchased in a variety of colors and finished at your local hardware or department store or even at a garage sale or flea market. In addition to being cost effective, lanterns are also incredibly versatile and can be used and reused for a variety of decor-related projects.

Step 2: Assemble Your Materials

Beginning with your lantern on your dinner table, open the door and place an odd number of candles inside. Our expert recommends three. 

TIP You can, at your own risk, use real candles for this project; however, battery operated candles do the trick, giving you that desired glow, sans the imminent fire hazard. 

Once you’re happy with the layout of your candles, you can begin to fill the lantern floor with baby’s breath flowers, having them spill out onto the table if you like the look. Add or remove flowers until you’re happy with the proportions of your centerpiece.
