Wildlife Encounters
In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, Marc and Mandy share stories of people and their encounters with wildlife. Check out the video above to find out what Marc and Mandy have to say, or keep reading for some tips on encountering and appreciating wildlife safely.
Never feed the animals
This is probably the most basic and widely understood rule when encountering animals. Feeding the animals may seem harmless while you’re doing it, but you’re actually upsetting a system that very much works well without human intervention. In the long run, feeding the animals could inhibit them from being able to properly feed themselves.
Skip the selfies
It may be tempting to get a picture with a wild animal; however, it’s historically pretty dangerous. Not only does taking pictures mean that people are getting too close to the animals, but oftentimes, it means they are turning their backs to them as well. This can be a recipe for disaster.
Remain inconspicuous
If you want to get a closer look at a wild animal, do your best to be inconspicuous. If you are in a vehicle, drive very slow. If you’re on foot, walk very quietly, stay low to the ground, and try your best to blend into the landscape as to not intimidate the animal. If you have pets, leash them or keep them far away from the wildlife at hand.
