Dress for Your Body Shape
If you’ve found yourself puzzling over your body type in the recent past, this video is for you! This segment of The Marc and Mandy Show features Nicola Loewen of Mad About Style. Today, Nicola shares some expert tips for dressing to flatter your size.
Understand Your Body Type:
Self-assessing your body type can be something of a challenge; however, knowing your body type prior to embarking on any type of shopping trip is a necessary evil and will help you to narrow down your clothing options when you begin shopping. Alternatively, you can have someone you’re comfortable with measure you to decipher the widest and narrowest parts of your body, which should be your shoulders, bust, waist, and hips. From there, you should be able to determine your body type. For example, since Mandy’s hips are wider than her bust and shoulders, she is a pear shape.
What Body Type Are You?
- Pear Shape. If, like Mandy, you are pear shaped, you want to achieve two things with your outfit: draw the eye up and you want to broaden the shoulders. Nicola recommends elements such as a deep plunging “V” neckline, a statement necklace, and a high waisted pencil skirt for a pear shaped body type.
- Inverted Triangle. As its name suggests, someone with an inverted triangle body shape would have a broader upper body than lower body. For this type of body shape, Nicola recommends voluminous skirts and crop tops.
- Hourglass. This one is arguably the most desirable body shape for women and features equal proportions on the top and lower body. One of the hallmarks to the hourglass figure is the natural waist. Nicola recommends accentuating that natural waist with a princess seam and form fitting attire.
