Old T-Shirt DIY
Here at the Marc and Mandy Show, it’s no secret that we’re big fans of upcycling. In the past, we’ve taught viewers and readers how to upcycle everything from furniture to fashion, and today, we’re dealing with old t-shirts. In the spirit of the three R’s, keep reading for a DIY-able way to upcycle an old t-shirt, courtesy of Marc and Mandy.
Project: Market Bag
What you’ll need: old t-shirt, sewing machine, thread, scissors
Step 1: Sew
First things first, turn your t-shirt inside out. Then, using a sewing machine, stitch the bottom hems of the t-shirt together, using one straight stitch across. Situate your straight stitch right above the original hemline of the t-shirt. If you happen to be skilled at hand sewing, you can alternatively hand sew this straight stitch.
Step 2: Cut
Next, flip the t-shirt so that the stitch you just did is in the inside and begin cutting the material into the shape of a bag. To do this, simply cut off both sleeves at the seam, as well as the collar.
Step 3: Use
Use your upcycled market bag for groceries, books, or as your childrens’ Halloween bags come October. Happy upcycling!
