Expert Q&A: Cleaning Tile Grout
Got grimy grout? You’ve come to the right place! In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Ask An Expert, Will Wientjes from The Tub Guys answers how to deal with mold and mildew in old grout. Keep reading for the Q & A.
Q: I have dirty, old grout in my shower area. What can I do about that?
Will Wientjes: That’s a great question! To address mold or mildew in your shower or bathtub area is with steam, because steam will actually kill the bacteria that actually produces mold and mildew. It is very important, once you clean it, to apply a grout sealer. Most people don’t realize that you should actually apply a new grout sealer layer for six to 12 months in your main shower, so that it prevents the mold and mildew from returning. Another great idea, if you have ugly tiles, is to reglaze them. Reglazing actually permanently seals your grout lines, so you don’t have to seal them over and over again. This process will also change the color of the tiles to pure white.
