Kitchen Floor Tour
Here at The Marc and Mandy Show, there’s nothing we love more than a good home tour. In segment of the show, Sandra Nash of Making A Scene meets with Tetiana Paratchuk from Kitchen Land to tour an open concept kitchen and view a beautiful flooring choice.
Sandra Nash: Tell me about this choice or flooring?
Tetiana Paratchuk: This client chose to have a very dark hardwood flooring that was hand-scraped. They made this choice because they have pets. Hand-scraping is a great idea if you’re anticipating minor damage to your flooring, such as pet scratches. It’s very important to have hardwood flooring that is actually local to the region, because once you have an open-concept home, it’s very hard to keep your humidity levels consistent. And your temperatures rise and fall during the day and nighttime, and therefore, in order for this hardwood not to expand and contract, you would need to have it locally made.
Some more things to keep in mind when choosing your flooring:
- Especially if you have an open concept layout, it’s very important to have the same flooring throughout each floor of your home. This will help with the flow of your home and will prevent it from looking choppy.
- Harder woods with oil finish will hold up better over time, in terms of damage and general wear and tear. Take this into consideration if your flooring will face a lot of traffic and wear.
- Pay attention to knots and grain pattern. If you are partial to a particular grain pattern, you may end up paying more, but you also have an option to go with a less expensive grain and splurge on a quality stain.
- Always ask for a sample before you purchase or install anything. Test it against the paint and decor in your home to make sure you are making the right choice.
