Choosing the Perfect Engagement Ring
On this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show: Q & A With a Wedding Expert, Lindsay Jones gives great advice on buying the right engagement ring.
Q: What advice do you have for selecting the perfect engagement ring?
Lindsay Jones: So, it’s becoming more and more common for women to be involved in the design of their engagement ring. But if you’re more traditional or you’d like to keep that element of surprise, there are few things you can do. First, take a look at the jewelry she already wears. Note the colour and the style. This will give you a good indication of what she likes. You can also ask a trusted friend or family member who might able to give you some hints. Another option is to purchase the center stone and have it set in a temporary sterling silver mount. This looks like an engagement ring, you can slip it on her finger, it’ll have that whole element of surprise, she can show it off to her friends and family, and then you can sit down together to design the piece of her dreams.
Q: How can I get the most value when purchasing a diamond?
Lindsay Jones: The number one thing that I recommend is find a jeweller that you trust. Find somebody who is going to answer your questions, who makes you feel good, and really educates you about the stone. Beyond that, there are some specifics you can look for within the diamond itself that can really help you get the most value. These are cut, clarity, carat weight, and colour. I recommend my clients prioritize cut and then colour.
