Decanting Wine
In this segment of The Marc and Mandy Show, Mandy learns some tricks about decanting wine with Sommelier Sean Dolenuck. Tune into their chat by checking out the video above or keep reading for some tips on picking out a great wine.
Read the label
As tempting as it can be to choose a wine based off of the label, you should always read the label for information on the fruit notes and sometimes even pairing information. The more you read wine labels, the more you will learn about what you like and dislike.
Don’t be turned off by a low price tag
It’s a common misconception that you have to spend a lot to get a good tasting wine. If you’re on a budget, consider purchasing bottles that are on sale. If the wine is on sale, it is likely because it is not in season or it has been sitting in the store’s inventory for a while, none of which makes it a bad or cheap wine.
Take a nod from your juice/fruit tastes
For example, apple juice lovers tend to enjoy sweet white wines, while grapefruit juice lovers are more likely to enjoy a dry white wine.
When in doubt, opt for a white or rose
If you’re new to wine or find the taste of wine to be very polarizing, opt for a white wine or a rose. White wines and roses are aged for less time and tend to have a milder, more fruit-forward taste to them.
