A Gentleman’s Guide to Buying Lingerie

For most men, purchasing lingerie is a process lined with confusion, stress and chaos. This Valentine’s Day, I’ve taken the stress out of lingerie shopping with my Gentleman’s Guide to Buying Lingerie.

Tip #1: Know What You’re Looking For

There are tons of different styles and options available and it can be overwhelming. The key is to pay attention to your partner. What does she like? What would she normally choose for herself? Is there something she’s always wanted but never been able to get for herself? As questions and get to know what your partner enjoys. If you pick out a camisole and she hates them, she will know you haven’t paid attention!

Tip #2: Know Her Fabric Preference

This one is very important. Most women have a preference but more importantly, for many women, allergies and skin sensitivities mean that some fabrics are out of the question right from the get go. Again – ask questions and pay attention to what she chooses for herself.

Tip #3: Remember, This Isn’t Just About You

Just because you want her to wear sexy french maid outfit or something to that effect, doesn’t mean she will like it or wear it. Choose something that suits her personality and you’re more likely to reap the benefits afterwards.

Tip #4: A Little Stretch Is Good

Stepping outside your comfort zone can add excitement but that should be a mutual decision. When choosing a gift, stick to options that she’ll be comfortable with. Trust me on this one!

Tip #5: Confidence is Key

When you look at her body, you go ga ga but she may not be in love with her stomach or her hips or butt. Don’t buy something that emphasizes her “problem” areas. If you’re not sure what that means, talk to the sales staff. They will be able to guide you to items that will work best for her body time.

Tip #6: Size Matters

You don’t want to give her something that just doesn’t fit her. If it’s to larger, she’ll feel like you think she’s bigger then she is. If it’s too small, she may feel like she’s put on to much weight. Before you go out to buy the lingerie, take a peek at her closet and look at her sizes. There may be a few numbers there but write them down and show them to the sales clerk. This will save you a world of trouble.

Tip #7: Colour is Key

Pay attention to colour choices in her everyday clothing. If her favorite colour is green, get her something in green. She will thank you for it later and you will score brownie points because you knew her favorite colour.

Tip #8: Play it Safe

You may not be sure on what size she is, go for a safe purchase like chemises or baby dolls. This type of clothing is generous with the fabric and not too tight. Choose one that is one size fits all or something that is customizable.
