Ask an Expert: Steam Ovens
Got ovens on the mind? Whether you’re considering a switch to a steam oven or already own one, there’s a lot to learn about the power of steam. In this instalment of The Marc and Mandy Show: Ask The Expert, Timothy Navarro of Midland Appliance answers some common questions about steam ovens for the modern kitchen.
Q: Steam ovens are really trending right now. Why are they so popular?
A: The great thing about a steam oven is that you can cook in multiple ways. You can steam your food, roast, bake, or a combination of multiple cooking methods.
Q: What are some benefits of using a steam oven?
A: Using steam to cook allows for much of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to remain intact. This is not the case with traditional convection ovens. Food cooked within a steam oven also tends to be cooked more evenly and even has a better taste.
Q: How does a steam oven compare to a microwave oven?
A: The problem with the microwave is that when you reheat your food, it affects the texture, taste, and nutritional value of the food. As well, the microwave often dries food out. A steam oven will use steam in conjunction with convection to gently heat your food without taking away all the moisture and nutritional value.
