Benefits of Singing Bowls
In this episode of The Marc and Mandy Show, Marc chats with Glen Hoban from Kami Singing Bowls about singing bowls and their benefits.
Marc: We have Glen from Kami Singing Bowls and he’s gonna be talking to us on what we need to do when it comes to picking out a singing bowl. So, what do we need to look for when it comes to singing bowls because that’s one of the things that if you’ve never bought one before it’s kind of intimidating right?
Glen: It can be especially if you just sort of heard what they are and think that sounds kind of cool but don’t really know much about them. Well, for most people who are getting a first-time purchase, you don’t want to put a lot of money into it. So, I usually suggest that people get one of the four-inch contemporary singing bowls that I have. They have beautiful high tones and they’re all handmade. They’re very good for calming your nerves because if you just find that you’re sort of depressed sometimes picking up a singing bowl and you’re giving it a ding it cheers you up because it’s like having a friend with a beautiful voice. These contemporary singing bowls are very nice and they’re tomorrow’s treasured antiques. Since i’m a musician, I do tend to come at them from a musical point of view. For myself, the sound is the most important thing and I like bowls that have a very resonant long-lasting sound, that don’t have a lot of vibrato, that have a harmonious combination of tones. Every bowl is absolutely unique and they have healing powers. It’s almost like they calm the mind. I’ve had a number of people get them because they’re teaching mindfulness in the schools these days actually and children love the high tones because, of course, they’ve got better hearing than we do and so they just love to listen to these bowls and ding and listen to all the overtones. It’s a good way to get them to settle down. And for adults, it’s a good way to get our minds to settle down as well.
